PIERRE, S.D. – Good news for people who are still paying their college loan debts.
Career Education Corporation will forgo collecting nearly $500 million in student debts. This includes nearly $1.6 million from more than 1,000 students in South Dakota, according to South Dakota Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg.
CEC has closed or phased out many of its schools over the past 10 years.
Attorneys General in several states alleged CEC pressured its employees to enroll students and engaged in unfair and deceptive practices.
The company denies the allegations but agreed to a settlement.
