Revealed: Best nurseries in Coventry which bagged ‘double outstanding’

Seven pre-school providers in Coventry have received a coveted “double outstanding” from Ofsted – but is yours among them?

Data released by the education watchdog shows a fifth of the city’s nurseries and pre-schools were given an ‘outstanding’ overall rating at their last inspection.

For seven of those, it was the second time in a row they had achieved top marks.

They were:

  • Bambinos Day Nursery in Binley
  • Eastern Green Pre-School Playgroup in Church Lane
  • Grangehurst Playgroup in Aldermans Green
  • Hinckley Road Nursery on Dorchester Way
  • Stepping Stones Nursery on Stoney Road
  • University Nursery at the University of Warwick
  • Westwood Day Nursery on Westwood Way

Bambinos Day Nursery is the only one which has had THREE successive outstanding ratings in its last three inspections.

Across Coventry

The figures were contained in an end of year report for 2018, containing the latest inspection ratings for more than 20,000 places offering childcare on non-domestic premises.

Those include nurseries and pre-schools, as well as some holiday clubs.

Of the 96 in Coventry with a published Ofsted rating, 19 were rated outstanding overall.

Ofsted

A further 70 were rated good – with none rated inadequate, and only five listed as requiring improvement.

That means 19.8 per cent of all nurseries and pre-schools in Coventry are considered outstanding.

The national average is 23.5 per cent, rising as high as 45.5 per cent in Sunderland, 44.6 per cent in Islington in London and 42.6 per cent in Brighton and Hove.

Nationally, the number of nurseries and pre-schools has remained fairly constant.

There were 27,200 providers offering childcare on non-domestic premises on December 31, 2018 – down by 50 compared to August 31, 2018.

At the same time, the number of registered childminders dropped by 1,000 to 39,700.

Of the 20,248 nurseries and pre-schools for which data is available, 4,759 (23.5 per cent) were rated outstanding, while 14,692 were rated good.

Only 574 were rated ‘requires improvement’, and 223 were inadequate.

The latest Ofsted report reflects the situation as it was at December 31, 2018. It is possible that a small number of places may have been reinspected since then – and may have seen their overall rating change.
