The former state education commissioner has been rehired after a year of controversy at the Missouri Board of Education.
Margie Vandeven will resume her former job, after the state board chose her as Missouri’s top education official this week. She was fired in 2017, after holding the job for three years. Then-governor Eric Greitens had cycled through a number of potential commissioners in what opponents claimed was an effort to oust Vandeven.
She will return to the Department of Education and Secondary Education in January.
